Cup of coffee or glass of water too close to your laptop? Did your mobile phone meet the kitchen sink accidentally? Don’t panic – if you know what to do, you can save your device. First – unplug and turn off the computer or phone and remove batteries, cables, external drives or other devices attached to the computer. Drain and blot any liquid from the device, tilting it gently if needed. If you still see liquid inside, put it upside down to drain. For a mobile phone, try sticking it in a bag of dry rice, which will absorb any excess water. Most importantly, resist the urge to turn it back on "just to see if it works." It needs to dry completely, and that could take up to 24 hours. But to save yourself the pain of having to get a new laptop or phone, it's definitely worthwhile. And next time, move that coffee mug to a different part of the desk. Find more tips for laptops, phones and other devices at PC world.
