ACTIONS DURING AN EARTHQUAKE:-
1. Do not panic
2. Take shelter under a table, desk or in a sturdy doorway.
3. DROP down onto your hands and knees, COVER your head and neck HOLD ON to your shelter.
4. Do not evacuate the building until instructed to do so. Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to a different location inside the building or try to leave
5. Stay away from windows and glass walls and avoid the elevators.
6. Listen for instructions from PA system
7. If you are trapped in debris:
a. Do not light a match
b. Do not move about or kick up dust. Cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing
c. Tap on a pipe or a wall so rescuers can locate you
8. If you are in a moving vehicle, stop as quickly and safely as possible and stay in the vehicle. Avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses, or utility wire. After the earthquake, proceed cautiously, watching for road and bridge damage.
ACTIONS AFTER AN EARTHQUAKE:-
1. Be prepared for aftershocks. These secondary shock waves are usually less violent than the main quake but can be strong enough to cause additional damage to weakened structures.
2. If an evacuation is ordered, follow instructions issued on the PA system or by the Floor wardens and move to the safe assembly area. Stay off the streets. If you must go out, watch for fallen objects, downed electrical wires, and weakened walls, bridges, roads and sidewalks.
3. Check yourself first for injuries and get first aid if necessary before helping injured or trapped persons if safe to do so
