Getting error while updating sharepoint list

I am adding items in sharepoint using a C# console application. While adding an item ‘CREATE_DATE’ which should pick up System Date, I am unable to do so and getting the following error :

‘The URL provided contains an invalid Command or Value. Please check the URL again.’

The datatype of CREATE_DATE in sharepoint list should be DateTime (Format 08/01/2011 05:11 PM).
